MANILA
Bituin Escalante’s career spans almost three decades.
Her definitive performances onstage have earned her 2 Broadwayworld Best Actress awards, 2 Gawad Buhay Awards for Best Featured Female Performance in Musical Theatre and 2 Aliw Awards for Best Featured Female Performance in Musical Theatre. In 2022, she premiered the role of MamaMakbet in Khavn DelaCruz’ SMAK at the Volksbuhnne in Berlin, Germany.
As a concert performer, she has shared the stage with such greats as National Artist Ryan Cayabyab, Willy Cruz, Louie Ocampo, David Benoit and the legendary Michel Legrand, among others. She is a multiple Aliw Awardee for her live performances and has multiple Awit Awards for her recordings.
For her work in Film, she has a FAMAS and numerous nominations for her small body of work. She is always cast in prestige projects such as Lav Diaz’ Ang Panahon ng Halimaw, a brutally honest look at the horrors of Martial Law, which was in the main competition of the Berlinale in 2018. In 2023, she, along with her co-actors won the Balanghay in Cinemalaya19 for Best Ensemble for Dustin Celestino’s Duyan ng Magiting.
Her greatest and most challenging role, though, is that of a mother to two beautiful, spirited daughters.
