ALAIN BOUBLIL

Lyrics, Co-creator

Alain Boublil is the author of the librettos and lyrics for the musicals La Révolution FrançaiseLes MisérablesMiss SaigonMartin Guerre, and The Pirate Queen, all in collaboration with Claude-Michel Schönberg, as well as Marguerite with music by Michel Legrand.  He also co-produced the original cast albums of all his shows.  He co-wrote the screenplay of the Golden Globe-winning and Oscar-nominated film, Les Misérables.  He is the author/lyricist of Abbacadabra, a fairy tale musical including ABBA classic songs, of the stage adaptation of the Demy/Legrand film, Les Demoiselles de Rochefort, as well as author of the musical play, Manhattan Parisienne, and the play, The Diary of Adam and Eve.  He wrote a prize-winning French novel, Les dessous de soi.

His many awards include two Tonys, two Grammys, two Victoire de la Musique and a Molière Award for Les Misérables as well as an Evening Standard Drama Award for Miss Saigon, a Laurence Olivier Award for Martin Guerre and a New York Chapter Honors Grammy for his outstanding contribution to the creative community.  Boublil and Schӧnberg’s 40 plus year collaboration was celebrated in May 2016 at Carnegie Hall as honorees of the New York Pops’ 33rd Birthday Gala.  He is long married to singer, actress, and director, Marie Zamora, the Paris Cosette, and is the father of four sons.

CLAUDE-MICHEL SCHÖNBERG

Music, Co-creator

Born in 1944 of Hungarian parents, Claude-Michel Schönberg began his career in France as a singer, writer and producer of pop songs.  In collaboration with Alain Boublil, he is the book co-writer and the composer of La Révolution Française, Les Misérables, Miss Saigon, Martin Guerre and The Pirate Queen.  In 2008 his musical, Marguerite, in collaboration with Alain Boublil, Michel Legrand and Herbert Kretzmer opened at the Haymarket Theatre in London. Claude-Michel has supervised overseas productions and co-produced several international cast albums of his shows.  In 2001 he composed his first ballet score, Wuthering Heights, which was created by the Northern Ballet in 2002.  His ballet, Cleopatra, which opened in 2011, was his second collaboration with David Nixon and his seventh complete score.  In 2012 Claude-Michel co-wrote the screenplay and reconceived the music for the Les Misérables musical movie.  His shows have won many awards over the years, most recently the WhatsonStage audience awards for Best West End Show and Best Musical Revival for the London production of Miss Saigon.  Golden Globe winner, Oscar nominee and Grammy award winner for his outstanding contribution to the creative community, Mr. Schönberg and Alain Boublil were honoured at a New York Pops gala concert in Carnegie Hall celebrating their 40-year collaboration.  Mr. Schönberg was appointed Visiting Professor of Contemporary Theatre at St. Catherine’s College, Oxford University – a position funded by the Mackintosh Foundation – and is now an Emeritus Fellow.  He is an Honorary Member of the Royal Academy of Music where he is a guest Professor.  Mr. Schӧnberg married the English ballerina, Charlotte Talbot, in 2003. He is the father of one son and two daughters.

ENDA MARKEY

Producer, Co-creator

Enda Markey was born in Dublin, Ireland. He trained on a scholarship to Laine Theatre Arts in London, studying on the musical theatre course.

Following his training, Enda worked as a singer and actor in Ireland and the UK. In 2002, Enda moved to Australia and worked extensively on television, theatre, concerts, and cabaret around the country.

His production company, Enda Markey Presents, has offices in London and Sydney. His work includes: Side By Side By Sondheim (Australian Tour) including a gala concert at Sydney’s Theatre Royal starring Ruthie Henshall; Blood Brothers (Sydney and Melbourne) starring Helen Dallimore, Bobby Fox, Blake Bowden (Sydney), Josh Piterman (Melbourne) and Michael Cormick; Defying Gravity: The Songs of Stephen Schwartz (Theatre Royal, Sydney) starring Sutton Foster, Aaron Tveit, David Harris, Helen Dallimore, Joanna Ampil and Betty Buckley; Stephen Schwartz in conversation with Leigh Sales (Theatre Royal Sydney), Boublil & Schonberg In Conversation with Mark Humphries (Melbourne) and Julia Zemiro (Sydney). Geraldine Turner in Turner’s Turn (Australian Tour) and the Australian tour of Bobby Fox: The Irish Boy. In 2019, Enda presented Ruthie Henshall in her first ever Australian tour.

Enda’s production of Boublil & Schönberg’s Do You Hear The People Sing? Premiered at the Shanghai Grand Theatre starring Michael Ball and Lea Salonga.  Subsequent productions in Manila (starring Lea Salonga) and Taipei (starring Michael Ball) followed. In 2022, the Australian tour, starring Michael Ball, John Owen-Jones, and Rachel Tucker, played at Hamer Hall and Sydney Opera House.

Becoming Eliza starring Anna O’Byrne premiered at the Sydney Opera House in 2022 and is currently touring Australia.

Future projects include further international dates for Boublil & Schonberg’s Do You Hear The People Sing? and Defying Gravity.

GERARD SALONGA

Musical Director

Gerard Salonga is currently Resident Conductor of the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra in Kuala Lumpur, a position he has held since January 2019. For two seasons he served as Assistant Conductor of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra from 2016 to 2018 where he was appointed by Maestro Jaap van Zweden, having been selected from a field of over 170 international applicants.  He also served as Music Director of the ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra in Manila from 2012 to 2020.  In January of 2021, Gerard began his term as the Music Director of the Orchestra of the Filipino Youth (OFY).

He has assisted and covered distinguished conductors such as Jaap van Zweden, Jun Märkl, Hans Graf, Yu Long, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Mark Wigglesworth, and Leonard Slatkin, and has conducted the Philippine Philharmonic, Shanghai Opera House Orchestra and Chorus, Kunming Nie-Er Symphony, Evergreen Symphony of Taiwan, Thailand Philharmonic, Bangkok Symphony, Singapore Symphony, South Denmark Philharmonic, Queensland Camerata, Orchestra Victoria, and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.  Gerard has also conducted in iconic venues such as the Sydney Opera House and Royal Albert Hall.

He has conducted a wide range of performances, covering symphony, ballet, opera, pops, family, and film including the Harry Potter, Raiders of the Lost Ark and Ratatouille films in concert, plus several Disney concerts.  His orchestral arrangements have been performed by orchestras such as the Hong Kong Philharmonic, Sydney Symphony, Singapore Symphony, Malaysian Philharmonic, RTÉ Concert Orchestra, New York Pops, Guangzhou Symphony, Winnipeg Symphony, Cincinnati Pops, Indianapolis Symphony, BBC Symphony, and Royal Philharmonic.  Gerard has also collaborated as arranger or conductor across different styles with artists like Lea Salonga, Lang Lang, Sumi Jo, Regine Velasquez, Wang Leehom, Wu Tong, Cecile Licad, Zia Hyunsu ShinTengku Irfan, Paul Archibald, Hacken Lee, Anthony Lun, Elisa Chan, Ivana Wong, Michael Ball, Blake, Il Divo, Danielle de Niese, TaikOz, Ksenija Sidorova, Shen Yang, Llŷr Williams, James Ehnes, Jan Lisiecki, and The Beach Boys.

In 2012 Gerard was honoured as one of The Outstanding Young Men (TOYM), the Philippines’ highest civilian award to achievers under the age of 40.  In 2021 he was named one of the recipients of the SUDI National Music Awards by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA).

 In 2024, aside from continuing his work with the MPO and OFY, performances include engagements with the Hong Kong Philharmonic and Singapore Symphony Orchestras.

EDDIE GREY

Eddie is an Australian-born director, writer and actor. The first musical he appeared in was Les Misérables, so he is thrilled to be back working on this material. Recent directing credits include short films Weather or Not, The Singing Telegram and Co-Star. Eddie was the associate director of Heathers: The Musical in Australia and has directed many concerts across Australia. As an actor, Eddie’s Broadway credits include The Book of Mormon and Harmony, and Australian credits include Wicked, Legally Blonde, The Book of Mormon and Spring Awakening. As a screenwriter, Eddie has development projects with production companies in the US and Australia and also serves as a writer for award shows.

BOBBY GARCIA

Casting Consultant

Bobby Garcia is a multi hyphenate Director, Producer and Casting Consultant. He has worked in film, television, stage and live concert entertainment, directing over 50 plays and musicals in Canada and throughout the Asian region including mainland China, Hong Kong SAR, Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, and Singapore. He founded one of Asia’s most prolific and successful theatre companies, Atlantis Productions/Atlantis Theatrical Entertainment Group in 1999. He was also an Associate Director for Miss Saigon (2000/2001) and was Hong Kong Disneyland’s first show director opening the park in 2005.

Bobby represented casting for Cameron Mackintosh in the Philippines for the revival of Miss Saigon and the UK Tour.

In addition to Cameron Mackintosh Ltd., Bobby has also been a casting consultant in the Asian region for the National Theatre of London and the Broadway production of Here Lies Love (Tara Rubin Casting) directed by Alex Timbers, the Broadway revival of M.Butterfly (Telsey + Co) directed by Julie Taymor, the International Tour of Disney’s The Lion King (Disney Theatrical International) directed by Julie Taymor, the London revival/UK Tour of The King and I (James Orange Casting) directed by Bartlett Sher and the film Conclave (Nina Gold Casting/ House Productions). He is the winner of three Aliw Awards for Direction (live entertainment awards in the Philippines) and has been inducted into their Hall of Fame.

As a producer, Bobby has spearheaded over 65 productions (including 20 international premieres) in the Asian region. On Broadway, he was a co-producer of the groundbreaking and historic musical Here Lies Love.
